Wednesday 22 May, London
Tim Steiner, Chief Executive Officer, OCADO will deliver his “state-of the-nation address”...
What does the future for retail hold and how are successful online retailers changing the rules of the game?
No other single speech in the retail calendar has the power to set the agenda – and motivate its audience – quite like the Annual Retail Lecture. Now in its fourth year, the BRC’s Retail Lecture is held for the industry to challenge thinking, inspire fresh ideas and present new possibilities. The evening will provide a measure against which retailers can test their strategic assumptions and planning for the coming months.
Not only will the event present a unique occasion to hear from one of retail’s leading CEOs, sparking off an interesting opportunity to debate the most challenging issues of the day, but it also provides excellent networking opportunities, offering delegates the perfect occasion to share views with industry peers.
At the inaugural lecture in May 2009, guests heard from Andy Bond, President and CEO of ASDA on how the recession is changing consumerbehaviour, the emergence of a new type of consumer, how these new consumers will fundamentally change the retail landscape and what retailers will need to do in order to adapt and survive.
2010 provided another significant presentation for the retail industry; this time from Andy Hornby, Group Chief Executive, Alliance Boots. In his first and most high profile engagement since joining Alliance Boots, Hornby discussed which types of retailer would be the most successful during the next 10 years in a presentation entitled, ‘Retailing: What’s changed with the Credit Crunch?’
In 2011 Sainsbury’s CEO Justin King took to the podium to help define the role of the responsible retailer in society. As one of the key retailsupporters of the government’s Big Society programme, the audience heard the reasoning behind Sainsbury’s thinking – and the opportunities the Big Society creates to forge new and credible connections with consumers.
in 2012 Charlie Mayfield, Chairman, John Lewis Partnership addressed the audience about new rules for a new era. Charlie spoke about how Retail is facing one of the most challenging economic periods in history. Combine this with the opportunities of a digital revolution and the fast pace of change in consumer behaviour - The audience were given an insight into what Charlie's perception on what today’s market-place look like for UK retailers and their customers.
The Lecture is the most significant presentation in the retail industry calendar!
